In 1998, Lallemand Health Solutions and Institut Rosell join forces and with combined knowledge and experience about bacteria and yeast, an intensive research program for documentation was developed, development and production of probiotics and probiotic yeast.

In 2011, Lallemand Health Solutions joins forces with Harmonium International and together they are today the world's largest manufacturer of documented probiotic strains and probiotic yeast, represented in 45 countries and on 5 continents.

Lallemand Health Solutions works closely with the scientific community and leading universities and was the first in the world to implement an advanced program for the genetic characterization of probiotic strains with the aim of determining both safety and strain-specific properties of the various strains. With science in focus, Lallemand Health Solutions stands for quality through:

  • Safety - toxicological studies and safety studies on humans
  • Stability through selection of strains, innovative technologies and patented protection techniques
  • Characterization of strains
  • Strain-specific documentation
  • Clinical studies with third parties, hospitals and institutions

PiLeJe Industries

PiLeJe was founded in 1991 and then started its research on the gut microbiome. PiLeJe realized that the hundred thousand billion microorganisms that live in the gut could have an enormous impact on health. Research expanded to characterize probiotic strains and find out how they affect health and determine the most beneficial doses.

PiLeJe is today Europe's leading player in probiotic food supplements and micronutrition and works closely with the scientific community.

The importance of eating lactic acid bacteria

Poor diet and a lifestyle with high stress expose the intestinal flora to great challenges. It is known today that the species richness and amount of bacteria in the intestinal flora is affected by how we live and what we eat, and that the greater the species richness of the intestinal flora, the better resistance we have to disease and imbalance.
